How to declutter your home for this new year
award-winning advice from a professional organizer
Girlfriend, please.
If you haven’t decluttered your home during this pandemic yet, guess what? You are not going to do it. Give yourself a break already! Let it go and focus on other things you enjoy doing.
If your family thinks the house needs decluttering, tell them to do it! And if that fails, call a professional organizer.
I thought I’d learn Italian during quarantine. I didn’t even start the process. This tells me I don’t really want to learn Italian. That makes me sad, but I’m learning to live with it. Jesus gave us google translate for a reason.
Take heart. You are doing just fine, and organizing a household — although helpful — is really hard for a lot of people to accomplish. Please don’t beat yourself up about it. I work with many really disorganized people and they are successful, loving, thoughtful people.
This new year is so different for those of us living in cities and areas where we are still on lockdown. Our goals and resolutions will be different, too. Smaller. Abstract maybe. Focusing on a house project that we’ve been meaning to do for months now isn’t the vibe we’re going for.
How do you feel about resolutions this year? Did you make them? Do you usually make them?
Mine are to get better at playing doubles (at least until my knee is 100% ready for singles), and to try making money as a writer (at least until the lockdown is over and I can make money as an organizer again.)
Anybody taking on a creative project or setting a quirky goal? Please tell me all about it.
Happy 2021, y’all.

I spent the first day of quarantine (back in March) cleaning out the garage and have organized/purged/restructured something on our home every week sense. Finally catching up from a decade of neglect.
It’s been great and I am happy with all the results. But if I am being honest all the cleaning and organizing is me trying to find control again during this time. I can’t do anything about my work situation or my kids’ school situation so I clean and organize because I can do something about the messy drawers in the kitchen. So yay for Covid. :/
Sending hugs!
