We headed to Roseburg, OR after stopping in Ashland for a few hours. This "vacation park" was incredibly beautiful and our spot faced out onto a golden field of wheat. Around lunch time an honest-to-goodness farmer in overalls and a ballcap showed up to harvest the field in his blue tractor. Don't think I didn't wave and smile like an idiot at him every time he drove by! For a city-dweller it was quite a show, followed by a lesson in wheat harvesting and the anatomy of a wheat berry. Thanks, Google!
2 days later he came back in a huge truck with a flatbed an hauled off 15 bails of hay at once!
We couldn't find this on google, so someone please teach us: is hay just the bottom part of the wheat plant?
I ate my weight in blackberries which were growing wild everywhere.
(And yes, Darla made a cobbler.)
Llamas!!
On our evening bike rides we picked pears and apples, saw local vineyards, sheep, horses, so many deer, and HUNDREDS of geese. And the weather was perfect. Needless to say we stayed 2 extra nights.
Keep in touch! love,
Shannon
